Theater Utrecht, in collaboration with the Museum Catharijneconvent, Welkom in Utrecht, and De Voorkamer, will present Common Ground on January 9, 2022. The programme includes a tour of the tentoonstelling ‘Maria Magdalena’ at the Museum Catharijneconvent, a city walk to the theatre De Paardenkathedraal, a lunch, a class in tekening, photography, or theatre centred on the day’s themes, and a borrel.

Deelname aan het complete programma kosten ten euro (inclusief lunch). We nodigen iedereen in Utrecht, vrouwen en mannen, om hieraan deel te nemen en in touch te komen met andere cultures en nieuwkomers in de stad.
Vrouwen have a lot in common with one another, although they have different roles in different cultures. Each role brings with it its own set of expectations, norms, and expectations, freedoms, and limitations. When you have to aarden in a vile culture, it’s a huge challenge to find your kracht, protect your eigenheid, and keep yourself safe and secure.
On Tuesday, January 9th, from 11 a.m. to 16 a.m., there will be a programme.

Wandeling by de stad naar De Paardenkathedraal, 12.00 – 12.45 uur
Lunch is served between 12.45 and 13.30 p.m. by Common Grounder Maha.
Workshops Tekenen / Fotografie / Theater, 13.30 – 14.30 uur. Experience isn’t required. We hand in the deelnemers ourselves on the day.

Achtergrond
Maria Magdalena is a worldwide symbol for women. She also created and received several roles: Jezus’ volgelinge, his vrouw and the mother of his children, losbandige vrouw, wijze priesteres, and apostel der apostelen. For the time being, she is the focal point of an exhibition created and presented by the Museum Catharijneconvent.
The Stichting Welkom in Utrecht connects displaced persons in Utrecht with people from the surrounding area and beyond. De Voorkamer is also a meeting place where people from different cultures can meet: a safe place to learn new things and a secure place to try new things. By working from a place of creativity and talent, they are able to bring people from all walks of life together on a personal level.
Theater Utrecht, Catharijneconvent, Welkom in Utrecht, and De Voorkamer collaborated on the Common Ground initiative in the year 2021. Seven women who were noodgedwongen to build a life in a vile maatschappij united in Common Ground through the medium of art. We talked about Maria Magdalena’s tentoonstelling and went on a journey through visual art, photography, and theatre to discuss women’s roles in contemporary and historical cultures.
In place of a bron of wantrouwen or ongemak, the vrouwen of various cultures work together to create an inspirational bron. They are now enlisting the help of other citizens of the city to take part in the workshops! We ponder and converse about the position of the woman as a result of the aeons and cultures that have passed us by. Birte ten Hoopen, head of education and public relations at Theater Utrecht, and workshopdocents from the Catharijneconvent are in charge of the day.
The second meet-up, Innovation:Lab, will take place on September 23rd.
The second Meet-up took place in our Innovation:Lab on September 23. Under the watchful eye of Theater Utrecht colleagues, a few students and a few experts from the field were able to win the first prototypes of Dan & Lieke’s, Opening Statement’s, and Mette Sterre’s concepts.
Mette Sterre created a prototype with a motion capture kostuum, 3D scans, and lighting design for a performance in which the digital and physical lives were fused into one. Changes of light and sound were caused by the performer’s movements.
Dan & Lieke investigated the interaction between movement and sound, in which the bezoeker was given a space and the sound on the koptelefoon could be influenced by the bezoeker’s own movements. There was also an unspoken interaction between the creators and those who benefited from the experience.
Opening Statement’s creators unveiled the first prototype of their online game, in which they investigated the overlap between online games, theatre, and reality. As a visitor, you recorded your impressions in the room by your own actions on the computer, and you played a ‘text-based’ game in which you were drawn into an exciting story and could control the outcome – or did you?
The first public Lab experiences will be available in January!
Naomi Velissariou is the winner of the Theo d’Or 2021.
Naomi Velissariou has been named the winner of the most important Dutch toneel prize, the Theo d’Or 2021. This was announced on September 11th during the Gal
a van Theater Nederland op het Nederlands Theater Festival. Het slotdeel van muziektheatertrilogie Permanent Destruction – Pain Against Fear, dat ze samen met ons maakten, won de Theod’Or voor de meest effectieve vrouwelijke dragende rol.
In haar oordeelsrapport stelt de Nederlandse toneeljury: “Naomi Velissariou’s morestemmige identiteit, die ze belichaamt in haar spel, verheft de vrouw boven het concept van het product. Wat dacht je hiervan: een vrouw die moeder wordt leert over een nieuw soort onvoorwaardelijke liefde, een die niet in een notie zit, maar die de angst en pijn iets draaglijker maakt. Ze maakt haar bewegingen minder krachtig en verstikkend dan in eerdere delen. Dit geeft je de ruimte om dichterbij te komen en te zien wat er achter de boosheid zit, zoals als zachtheid en kwetsbaarheid.Je kunt haar in je gedachten opharken, wat belangrijk is voor een vrouw die gepassioneerd is over haar leven en zichzelf.”

De Volkskrant schrijft: “‘Dit is de waarheid. ‘Ik ben oprecht.’ Met de Theo d’Or voor Naomi Velissariou heeft de Nederlandse toneeljury een rol blootgelegd die hen drie seizoenen lang heeft gefascineerd.The SK Concert en The HM Concert, geïnspireerd op respectievelijk het werk van Sarah Kane en Heiner Müller, zijn niet te missen uit Velissariou’s muziektheatertrilogie Permanent Destruction (met een onmiskenbare rol voor muzikant Joost Maaskant): (..)
